Call for Papers zur Tagung »Building infrastructures for archives in a digital world«

Das von der EU-Kommission geförderte Projekt APEx, Archives Portal Europe network of excellence, bestehend aus 29 europäischen Partnereinrichtungen, richtet vom 26. bis 28. Juni 2013 in Dublin eine Konferenz zum Thema „Building infrastructures for archives in a digital world“ aus. Im Mittelpunkt der Tagung stehen Erfahrungen und aktuelle wie voraussichtlich zukünftige Herausforderungen, die Archive mit den Möglichkeiten der digitalen Präsentation und Vernetzung verbinden. Neben dem Archivportal Europa und dem APEx-Projekt soll in diesem Zusammenhang auch ein Forum für nationale beziehungsweise interdisziplinäre Ansätze und Beispiele geboten werden.

Der Call for Papers richtet sich daher an alle, die ihre Themen, Diskussionsvorschläge und Erfahrungen in diesem Rahmen einbringen möchten. Sie können Ihre Beiträge bis zum 17. Februar 2013 elektronisch einreichen. Die Konferenzsprache ist Englisch. Weitere Informationen sowie Einzelheiten zur Konferenz und dem Call for Papers finden Sie auf der APEx-Projektwebseite.

Panels

1. Basic aspects
These panels will discuss the fundamental aspects of providing archival content via digital platforms.

1.1. Strategic issues, introduction: inspiring keynotes on archives in a digital world
1.2. Open data and licencing: legal aspects, consequences for accessibility, economic aspects, copyright, creative commons etc.
1.3. New business models: online services, cooperation with companies such as genealogical service providers etc.
1.4. Linking of data – interdisciplinary cooperation: cooperation between archives and other cultural institutions
1.5. Standards/metadata: lectures departing from different perspectives: possibilities/difficulties; wider international and local context; practical implementation; use and development of ontologies/epistemologies etc.

2. Best practice
These panels will bring together already existing practical experiences across Europe and America in order to provide an overview on the practical implementation of many aspects discussed in the first panel.

2.1. Best practice I: building infrastructures on a national level (national portals, platforms etc)
2.2. Best practice II: building infrastructures on an international level
2.3. Best practice III: sustaining digital infrastructures in the long run
2.4. Best practice IV: from cardboard boxes to European e-archives (case studies of several archives’ path into the internet, especially into the Archives Portal Europe: difficulties, possibilities, obstacles, opportunities, problems, solutions, goals, visions etc)
2.5. Best practice V: tools (APE-tools, AtOM)
2.6. Best practice VI: international cooperation as a precondition for building infrastructures (professional exchange, synergies, international projects, fundraising etc)

3. Hands on
These panels will discuss issues related to the practical use of archival content on the internet. It should be a platform for different kind of users in order to learn about specific requirements and expectations.

3.1. Users of archivistic content now and in the future (definition of target groups, new requirements for archives, greater accessibility etc)
3.2. Building new partnerships (Web 2.0, crowdsourcing, cooperation with users/scientific institutions/genealogical societies etc)
3.3. Archival content in didactic practice (best practice, requirements, cooperation with universities, schools etc)
